"Behold, this was guilty of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and the needy"
This passage shows that God calls us to help those who are in need. Our society sounds a lot like what is expressed in this verse. We are proud and have an overabundance of supplies yet neglect to help the brothers and sisters to our left and right. We are called for more; we are called to take what we need and nothing more. We as a society take for granted the struggle it once took to merely survive in the world.
"I sought the lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from my fears."
This short and simple yet powerful passage of Psalm 34 shows, that if you seek the lord with your whole heart, mind and body, he will answer, and when he answers he will deliver you from whatever it is that you are struggling with.
"This poor man cried and the lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles"
This passage goes along with Psalm 34:4, ask the lord and he will deliver. It may not be in the ways that we want, but it is in the ways that we need.
"(17)When the righteous cry for help, the lord hears and delivers them out of all their trouble. (18)The lord is near the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."
Psalm 34:17-18 describes the relationship God has with the people that give all their faith to him. It shows how Christ is with us in our most dark moments. All we need to do is call out with our hearts and minds and he will deliver us from whatever it is that is attacking us. Whether it be financial struggles, substance abuse, family issues, or even spiritual difficulties. Christ will be there for us when we call out for him.
"Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear for them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect"
This passage goes along with our Organization's Spiritual moto Romans 8:31 "With God on our side who can be against us?" Peter is saying to us what can possibly harm you if you are honestly walking with Christ? If we walk with Christ in spirit, mind, and body we will still suffer in this world, but Christ will still bless us with what we need. We are also called in this passage to stand for anyone who comes to us seeking help. We are to help them with kindness, love and respect. We are to be both, the lion, and the lamb.
